Temporary Mass Times: In response to the recent Clergy Assignments from the Diocese, the Pastoral Council held an emergency meeting. They have come to a consensus on a temporary Mass schedule that enables Fr. Eva to serve both St. James and St. John’s in Smithton. We appreciate your love for our parish. Gratefully, Fr. Eva

The Quilt-A-Rama

We are offering 12 of St. James quilters most beautiful quilts. Tickets are $25.00 each and if you are our lucky winner in any given month your name goes back into the pot for future drawings. Hearts of Lenten Cross

During Lent, household and toiletry items will be collected for the Millstadt Food Pantry. The St. James Christmas collection nearly lasted until the Lenten season and was greatly appreciated. There will be hearts on the cross with suggested items and a barrel in the back of the church for donations. Thank you!

Ministry

Our community is filled with so many ways to serve

Divine Mercy to the Sick

Volunteers, upon request, will visit parishioners who are seriously ill to pray The Divine Mercy Chaplet with them and for them. This is a simple way to support St. James families and provide a powerful spiritual benefit for all. Contact the rectory if interested in volunteering.

Eucharistic Adoration

Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the monstrance from 7-8 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. The person responsible for Adoration will prepare the alter and lead the rosary before 7:00 p.m. and lead the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Closing of adoration is usually at 8:00 p.m. If interested in being responsible for adoration call the rectory.

PSR

Share your love of Jesus and the Catholic Faith by teaching a group of students in grades Kindergarten-8th Grade. Classes are held every Tuesday 6:20-7:30 p.m. September-April in St. James Catholic School.

Prayer Chain

St. James Church’s Prayer Tree has been providing comfort and hope to worried parishioners since 2001. If you would like us to pray for your intention, or if you would like to be a part of the prayer tree, please call or text Amy Gerteisen at 618–698-2428 (If she doesn’t answer, leave a message) or email her at gerteisen100@yahoo.com.

OCIA

OCIA Volunteers welcome, support and share their personal faith with individuals wishing to learn more about joining the Catholic Church. Meetings last about one hour on Sunday mornings. The volunteers teach as a team of two and follow a leader’s guide. Call the rectory at 618-476-3513 to inquire.

Decor

For special Church seasons, such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter, appropriate decorations are displayed to enhance the celebration of these liturgical seasons. Notification of church decorating is announced in the bulletin.

Adult Choir

St. James provides an opportunity to enhance the holiday liturgies through singing. Choir practice is usually on Thursday evenings. Contact Adrienne LaCroix through the rectory.

Gift Bearers

Individuals or families bring to the altar the offertory gifts of bread and wine as well as the monetary offerings at weekend Masses. According to your choice of Mass time, a schedule is made for a two-month period. The schedule is available in the back of church or online. Contact the rectory at 618-476-3513.

Greeters

Individuals or families welcome parishioners and visitors at the entrance to the church before weekend Masses. According to your choice of Mass time, a schedule is made for a two-month period. The schedule is available in the back of church or online. Contact the rectory at 618-476-3513.

Knights of the Altar Servers

All boys and girls in grades 4-8 in St. James School or PSR are invited to assist the celebrant with the liturgy. Training is provided. Lectors

Individuals proclaim the Word of God and lead the petitions during the weekend Masses. One needs to feel comfortable speaking from the lectern. Liturgical Ministers

Vounteers assist with the distribution of the Eucharist during Mass. There will be a two-month schedule available online or at the back of church. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the rectory at 618-476-3513.

Ushers

Ushers assist with seating, collecting the monetary offerings and dismissing after mass. According to your choice of Mass time, a schedule is made for a two-month period. The schedule is available in the back of church or online. Contact the rectory at 618-476-3513.
